FAST HV: The FAST HV (High Volume) is a fully modern road racing rim. The rims are hookless, and wider than even a modern hooked rim. Instead of 28mm outside width, which is a legacy of rim brake clearance. These high volume rims are 30mm external with a 25mm internal width. These are simply a deeper version of the Xplor. The leading edge of road racing tech is moving to a hookless, low pressure road racing wheel/tire combo.
Pros are starting to use these in the pro peleton. I have been happily running nothing less than a 28mm tire at nothing more than 70PSI for several years and in my opinion this is the future. In a few years, hooked, high pressure rims will be as outdated as rim brakes. For now, I offer both "regular" FAST and now the FAST HV. Note that all hookless rims are limited to 72PSI inflation pressure. This sounds low, but paired with a 28mm tire or greater, this results in the same "firmness" as a 25mm tire at high pressure. The benefits are rolling resistance, grip, and an incredible increase in comfort at the bar and saddle. This is the way.
A side benefit of this design is that, like the XPLOR, you can just as effectively run the wide gravel tire of your choice and the FAST HV are now an "aero gravel" wheelset, which is also a growing area of interest from racers.
NOTE: XPLOR rims are shown (40mm deep) as I have yet to get back into the studio after my move to Arizona. They look just like the XPLOR, only deeper at 60mm! If you have questions email me and I can take a quick picture for you.
Rims are constructed using graphene doped Toray T800 carbon fiber. Graphene doping is a process using wherein a very small amount of graphene (under 2%) is added to the carbon matrix during processing. My experience has shown this improves toughness, allowing pretty significant weight reductions in the rim construction.
The FAST HV is 24 hole, laced in a 2-cross configuration front and rear using Sapim CX Ray aero spokes.
All wheels come tubeless taped with premium alloy valve stems installed, ready for you to mount tubeless tires. Through axles are not provided with wheels as they are part of the bike frame system.
